Christmas cabbage rolls

The traditional recipe for Serbian cabbage rolls is a different recipe from my previous cabbage roll recipes. This rolls are filled with rice , bacon and meat specially pork which goes well with cabbage.

Preparation time;270 min

Ingredients

24 leaves of cabbage

300 g of ground beef

700 g of minced pork

300 g of smoked bacon

1 large onion

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

so

pepper

ground red pepper

rice

Bay leaf

parsley leaves

Preparation

First, wash and strain the cabbage leaves.

Finely chop the onion and add it to the pan, then sauté it in oil. Add some diced bacon. Then add minced meat. Mix and add spices and finely chopped parsley leaves.

When the meat is slightly browned, add washed rice if desired. A handful of rice is enough for this much meat.

Then remove the coarser parts on the sheets. You can put them at the bottom of the pan in which the cabbage  will be cooked. Add a spoonful of the meat mixture to each leaf and wrap it up. I do this by putting a spoonful of meat on the edge of the leaf, which I cover with one side of the leaf, and then twist it with the other.

Fill the pan with the meat wrapped in this way. When the cabbage  stand upright in the pot  there is less possibility that they will fall apart when they are taken out.

Fill the cavities between  with pieces of the remaining bacon and a bay leaf. Pour water to cover them, cover with a small pot lid and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours with occasional additions of water.
