This tradition comes from ancient Rome when bread was prepared with pine nuts, raisins and pomegranates, later in middle Ages honey, spices and other types of preserved fruits were added. At the beginning this cake had nothing to do with the end of the year festivities, the farmers used to prepare it during the harvest season and it was believed that this would bring good luck for the following year.
During the 18th century candied fruit consumption was only allowed in Christmas celebrations since it was considered luxurious. When low-priced sugar began to become more popular, it was the English who were in charge of taking the recipe and the tradition to the rest of the world, where establishments dedicated to the Christmas cake emerged .Enjoy the holidays to the fullest and surprise your family by preparing this delicious Christmas Cake.
