Christmas crunch

 




 

The  crunch is a candy made from caramelized sugar with butter and lemon, including almonds or hazelnuts.

It is prepared  in different regions of Italy during the Christmas period. It would have been born in the south of Italy derived from a typical Arab candy made from almonds, honey, sugar and spices.

Very easy and quick to prepare, it is a popular treat during the Christmas holidays.



 


Cooking time: 10 min

Total time: 15 min

Serves: 6 people


125 g sugar

100 ml of water

150 g almonds or hazelnuts

15g butter

1 juice of one lemon


 

Preparation:


Melt the sugar in a small saucepan with half a glass of water over low heat.

Heat without stirring until the water begins to turn golden, then add the chopped or whole hazelnuts or almonds.

Add the butter and lemon juice.

Stir until the mixture turns an amber color.

Pour hot mixture  on a sheet lined with lightly oiled parchment paper.

Place another baking paper on top and roll out the crispy dough to a thickness of 1 cm with a rolling pin.

When the crunch is still hot, slit with a knife to form squares, so that when cool, it can easily divide.

Put the crunchy in the refrigerator so that it solidifies.
